| Maria |
| This
is Maria, who lives in Bulacan, Philippines (near Manila). I started sponsoring
Maria in July 2000 (she was 7 years old then), and met her for the first
time on my trip to the Philippines the next month. One of the first
things she said (whispered, actually) to her mother on the day I met her
was "He looks like Jesus." I cannot help but smile every
time I remember being told that. After meeting Maria, I believe
every dictionary should just have her picture as the definition of
"adorable."
Maria does very well in school, and so everyone has high hopes for her. But more important to me is the fact that she is a very sweet person. Not surprisingly, she is also a bit shy and quiet. I am also very proud to be Maria's sponsor, and I am looking forward to getting to know her and her family better as the years go by. Since we were not
able to spend as much time with Maria as we would have liked to, I do not
have as many pictures of her as I would like to. But hopefully I
will have a lot more after my next visit. |
