Karen, me, and Khay in the SM Fairveiw mall (Quezon, Philippines) February 2000

An introduction, of sorts:

Hello...

My name is John, and I live in Bettendorf, Iowa USA.  Nice to meet you.

Ok, I know that's a bit inane...  Nonetheless, this is my little personal website, which is admittedly in dire need of updating.  Hopefully, the urge to do so in earnest will hit me soon and stay for awhile.

Anyway, this is my site and so I decided to use its home page as a blurb about myself.  So here goes: I am one of those people who would like to do nothing but travel.  I want more than anything to see other places and other cultures, and to help others who need it (especially in those other places).

Unfortunately, though, the world (or at least this part of the world) doesn't work that way -- most of us have to be good little capitalist sheep here or perish, after all... So when I am unable to travel (about 99.75% of the time), I concentrate on things like computers, religion, reading, trying to stay in shape (though I don't do that enough and it is showing more and more), politics, music, anything about other countries & cultures, and a few other things.
Being the horrible, godless Socialist that I am (demonstrated by the way I sit and wait for the U.N.'s black helicopters to arrive and take away our sovereignty), much of this website is going to be dedicated to people and things in other countries--such as my significant other (Lulu, who is here now but was in another country until recently), my sponsored children, my all-too-few journeys, and links to organizations that serve people worldwide.

Ok, I know that wasn't all that interesting.  But please take a look at my photo galleries and visit some of the sites listed below -- maybe a few of them will be!

Coming Soon, or at least eventually: Answers to the question: "Geez, why is John so cynical?"

The danger right now is not terrorism . . .The danger
is here at home, where zealotry is substituting for policy-making, where the flag is turning into the administration’s fig leaf, and where slander is any opposition’s reward. . .
This is not unity. It’s not patriotism. It’s stupor.”
