Expository Reflections
A Midsummer Night's Dream
I truly love A Midsummer Night's Dream. It is my favorite play by Shakespeare. I believe it was a successful piece of writing due to my extensive work with Midsummer and its plotline.

I wrote this essay my Sophomore year in Honors English. At that point, I was still developing my writing style. I look at this piece now and I realize the many flaws that were in it. I needed to make clearer sentences and really make each paragraph flow from one to another. To further improve it, I worked on shortening the overly wordy sentences and make them clearer, as previously mentioned.
The Great Gatsby
This piece was written near the end of my Junior year with an incredible English teacher (thank you Mrs. Selfridge)! While The Great Gatsby was not my favorite piece of literature, it was interesting comparing the two different types of society present in The Great Gatsby.

To improve this piece of writing, I used some of the directions given to me by Mrs. Selfridge. I wrote in present tense and further developed the points that I was attempting to make with the quotes.
Thorn in My Heart
This in-class essay was composed with my original "question." I believe it was successful due to its organization and attention to detail. Upon reading this book, I had deeper religious understanding, due to the insights that the book provided. This particular esssay was creative since we used it to "judge" and critique the book.

In the revision, I worked on diction and syntax, as well as making my sentences and thought process clearer. However, it is always difficult to think clearly when you are only given 40 minutes to compose a complete book report.
The Swan House
To be completely honest, I was thoroughly depressed after reading this book, but very moved and inspired at the same time. It was such an interesting novel, most definitely worthwhile. I believe this particular in-class essay was successful due to the use of quotes and once again, detailing. I also explained exactly what I was feeling and thinking with each quote.

I truly think that my spiritual sense shows strongly in this paper and it shows my own growth and thought process. Upon reading
The Swan House, I truly had a different outlook on life. It really made me open my eyes and think.
