9/11
A day my world stood still was September 11, 2001. I remember waking up and turning on the television. I saw the first building in flames and for some reason the first thing I thought of was the movie Armagedon.. Then, I thought to my self, "There is no scene like that in the movie." It was very sad. I was in complete shock. I was also pregnant with my daughter at the time. I was so scared for her and thinking what kind of world is my child going to have to grow up in? I continued to watch the television all day long and cry. I called my friend Julie because her dad lives in Manhattan, New York. She was hysterical. Her dad was fine but she was so worried. I will never forget this day. I will be sure to tell my children and my grandchildren about it. I will explain to them to value their life because they never know what kind of an unexpected turn it could take.
The Lake with Grandpa
I can remember my grandpa always telling us funny stories. He would always take me and my younger brother and drive us around Wyandotte County Lake. There were woods on both sides of the road and he would always say, "Look there?s a bear," or "Look theres an Indian." Of course we would always turn and look. We thought he was telling the truth and that we always just missed it. We didn?t know any better. Also, whenever we would go to the grocery store with him he would always honk at the older ladies while my grandma ran in and did the shopping and say, " Hey, she used to be my girlfriend." It would always embarrass us, but it was so funny to see the ladies look around for someone when he honked. When my grandma came back we would act like nothing ever happened. I don?t think she ever knew about it.
Easter with Grandma
For years when we were little Easter was avery special day.  We would always wake up early and get all dressed up in our new Easter clothes.  I always had a pretty new dress, white shoes, and new purse.  After church we would rush home to change our clothes so we could rush to Grandma's house.  Grandma would always fix a big dinner on Easter, but the one thing we always anticipated was the homemade Easter candy she made.  This candy looked like robin's nests with little eggs in them. She used coconut, green food coloring, and jelly beans.  This was a tradition in our family for many years.  Grandma would make this every year.  My grandmother was getting older and two years ago she forgot how to make this candy.  We tried to help her remember but she could not remember all of the ingredients.  My grandmother is no longer with us and this is one of the treasured memories I will always remember.
