| Chapter 3 - up and running again | ||||||
| June 12, 2003 - After being out of commission for 3 months, my car is finally back and running again. The broken tensioner mounting point on the 16 valve head was repaired by an aluminum welder, and one valve was replaced. The remainder of the head was in good shape, and the pistons were all fine. The valve seats were re-ground, and the head was replaced with all new gaskets and seals. Additionally, the motor mounts were both replaced (it now runs smooth!), and an exhaust leak at the header was welded shut. The car sounds and runs great. I also repainted the valve cover and intake manifold in high-temp silver paint with black Porsche lettering, it looks great. I'll get some pics as soon as they are developed. Total bill - approximately $3300. This includes the labor for a mechanic to put it back together, plus $700 for a set of used camshafts, plus the head repair and remaining parts. |
