| The Porsche bug bit me early. After owning a 1990 Mazda RX-7 (which was a nice car in its own right), I wanted a car with better handling and more heritage. I had always loved the lines of the 944, and by this time they were becoming quite affordable. I traded my RX-7 in for this car and the fever struck. By the time I sold this car to buy the 944 turbo, I had installed the 16" wheels you see above, a K&N filter, round throttle cam, and autothority performance chip. Top speed was about 135 mph, measured on the long highway stretches between Dallas and Houston. The handling of the 944 is simply amazing. The 944's feedback provides ample opportunity for the driver to correct his mistakes before getting into serious trouble. Although with its 50/50 weight distribution, it's hard to get this car into trouble to begin with. The 2.5L four cylinder engine was quite strong even with 120K miles on it. It could have lasted another 50K at least. |
