| I purchased the 944 turbo in 1999 while in medical school, and immediately loved it. The steering was precise, the engine was smooth and the turbocharged power was mesmerizing. Adding autothority stage II chips made the car even more impressive to drive. I began to autocross with the 944 turbo, but I soon learned it was not the ideal auto-x car due to its significant turbo lag and lack of limited-slip differential transmission. Still, I practiced some basics of car control, such as braking in a straight line and looking down the track instead of immediately in front of the car. I also learned it was a quick way to eat through expensive tires. I performed many of the common modifications to my 951 - read about them on my modifications page. |

| I feel the strength of a sports car lies in its ability to connect the driver to the car and transmit those visceral messages only a driver can understand. The 944 turbo does this better than any car I've experienced. After all, it was heralded as the best handling production car in America on its initial debut. As many of you can probably relate, my time was spent washing, waxing, and driving this car, not to mention the numerous little projects you tend to get involved in. Adding a boost gauge, replacing the brake rotors, bolting on a MOMO steering wheel, or replacing the DME chips with higher performance chips. End result - one heck of a fun car to drive. Did you get a chance to see the 160mph photo? That shows just how capable the 951 is of top-notch performance. |
