| A Moment of Reflection-- May 21st, 2002 | ||||||||||||
| Today, as I sit and watched Cierra, who only has 3 more days of 1st grade, run with her hearts delight during Field Day, I give thanks! I have so much to be thankful for! To sit and watch her chat and giggle right along with her friends, and to watch her grin from ear to ear listening to all of the other kids cheer her on, "Cierra, Cierra, Cierra, Cierra" while doing the potato sack race, gives me goosebumps! To look at this precious little girl, who once could only communicate through sign language, be able to be "free", is absolutely priceless to me! To listen to Cierra talk on the telephone to her family and friends, and have great conversations...it is so delightful for me! I had some time to reflect, this weekend, as I watched videotapes of Cierra 5 years ago, as she was on the phone with her Grandma, and did not even realize there was sound coming through...or when Cierra was with a little girl the same age as her, and the little girl was singing and talking away, and all Cierra could do to "communicate" with her was shake her head and reach out her hand, yet she still did it with a smile. And the last tape I watched, was that of Cierra on her "Hook-up" day! WOW! We have come SO far! God could not be any better to us. He has blessed us to the fullest extent! I am so thankful! Cierra is now 7 years old, and has had her Cochlear Implant for 2 years and 4 months! |

| And again, today, on the way home from watching Cierra on her field day, it was very windy, and Kelcie said to me, "Mommy, the wind is singing." Wow...that is amazing to me, and I am so thankful to God! I am so thankful that Kelcie, now 4 years old, is so "free"! She has never needed any special services. She stayed at home with me for the first 4 years of her life. When she turned 4 years old, she went to a preschool at Church, and she did just great! She loved it! School is now out for the summer, but she is excited for the next year! Kelcie has had her Cochlear Implant now for 1 year and 10 months! She is doing fantastic, thanks be to God! |
