Dirt cake with worms
A package of chocolate cream filled (or
mint) cookies. (or half of each type) up to 20 ounces
½ large tub of whipped topping with green food coloring added for a grass look
½ large tub of whipped topping to add later to the pudding mixture
Instant Pudding - Chocolate or Vanilla or any other flavor
(For a big dirt cake use two or more packages)
Milk (for the instant pudding) (for allergies to cow’s milk buy rice or soymilk) Gummy Worms and bugs, even jelly bean eggs (some stores offer this in the bulk/bins food section)
Put the chocolate cream filled cookies in the freezer, at least overnight. This makes the cookies easier to blend in the blender to crush into a 'dirt like' granules. Blend the whole package into “dirt.” You can also use a food processor. Also, you can crush the cookies in a plastic bag with a rolling pin. Make the Instant Pudding and fold in ½ the tub of whipped topping. It’s okay to swirl the topping and pudding if they are 2 different colors. I like to use a clear bowl to show the dirt layers and critters Put a layer of Oreo dirt in the bottom of the cake pan then a layer of pudding & cream mix. Lastly, place the gummy bugs, worms, and eggs strategically in the pudding. Continue to layer until dirt and pudding mixture last. Cover with the green whipped topping, garnish with coconut dyed green, more critters, etc. Put the cake in the refrigerator for an hour or more. Also, you can make the cake in individual clear plastic throw away cups. This is a no-stress dirt cake. Kids love this cake! Trick candles are fun for this type of cake, and vanilla ice cream on the side.
Hints. Small plastic shovels are fun to use as spoons. Also, new , clean buckets make great containers for eating this “dirt” cake.
Take a picture of everyone’s face after eating this messy delight.
