| Dear All,
Im off to Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia for ten months. Its TEFL again. For those of you who are interested my contact address is: J. Mehers C/o London School Sovietskaya 39/2 720005 Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan Tel No. (for emergencies and parties) +996 312 544474 John ----------------------------- Dear all, Have arrivd safely after comletely uneventful jouney. The plane from London was late leaving. I missed my connection and went on the next flight - Aeroflot. The plane was a Boeing 767 and the crew were very nice. Just before the descent to Moscow I was thinking that aeroflot was OK. The descent was designed to avoid any missile batteries. Dive dive dive left right dive. We landed. I had to change terminals - one is on the other side of the runway from two so a long bus ride. There were officials accompanying, well guiding me every step of the way. The next pkane was a Tuplolev 154 - apparently not the safest of planes. My seat was at the back - near the toilets or so I could smell. We took off OK then the inflight entertainment started. A Russian Army officer with two bottles of Chivas Regal sat down next to me and alked to the person opposite. Then he turned around gave me a cup, poured in a decent measure and one for himself downed his and looked at me. I took a sip as I did not want a paralytic star to the new job. Eventually we landed, someone gave a round of applause to the captain. I cleared passport control and found out that my bag had once again done a runner. The Aeroflot official said it had probably been delayed in Moscow and would follow on the next flight. Monday. So I've been wandering around in black jeans and walking boots in 30 degre temperatures. I've met the other teachers and the director and so far so good. Tomorrow I hopefully collect my luggage and start at the school. John ----------------------------- Sent: 19 August 2001 08:47 Subject: Hallo, Back in Bishkek, no major damage suffered. Highlights were D+V following sheep head soup and trying to cross an eleven thousand foot pass without a waterproof tent or a stove. Osh, in the south, has an amazing bazar, just about everything on sale. Not people, but animals, horses being shoed, horse shoes being made, lots of food you wouldn't recognize (even sheep's heads). No kidnappings, just lots of officials who like to stop cars with foreigners in. Overall had a great time. Mixed feelings about being back. A porcelain toilet is a wonderful sight but work looms... John P.S. The work is teaching - not on the porcelain toilet (just in case you were confused). D+V - a traditional performance that usually follows strange food.
