Artificial Tear Vessel
Welcome to the
page devoted to my favorite band! - Pearl Jam Here you will find a variety of different Pearl Jam artifacts,
including links, news, sounds, pictures, quotes, lyrics, and my personal
commentary on the band that changed the way people look at grunge music.
Pearl Jam not only sounds great, but (if you listen closely to Eddie) they
also have an awesome message. After a great new album Binaural
featuring Matt Cameron formerly of Soundgarden , and tour that
produced a whole crapload of live releases, not to mention a DVD,
the members of Pearl Jam have gone back into the studio (starting February
2002) to produce another album. PJ's latest album is Riot Act . The
first single from the album was "I Am Mine"
I started becoming a Pearl Jam fan just a couple years ago, but it
wasn't until early 1998 that I started collecting all of their albums.
When Yield was released, however, I was hooked and now I go out
of my way to purchased $10-$20 singles just for the B-sides. And now for a little history. ... From what I've heard Jeff Ament and
Stone Gossard came from a group called Mother Love Bone (My friend calls
it hair metal). At this time Eddie Vedder was in a band called Bad Radio
with songs like "Goat." After the death of their lead singer, the members
of MLB broke up and met with some of the guys from the group Soungarden.
They produced the band Temple of the Dog and Vedder joined them late in
the recording sessions (You can here him on the popular song Hunger
Strike). Anyway, some of the members (Vedder, McCready, Gossard, & Ament)
felt they had something going and began to work together. Dave Krusen
joined as the drummer and Pearl Jam was born. More information about
early Pearl Jam history
is available.
He won the lottery by being born. Big hand
slapped the white male american. Do no wrong so clean cut. Dirty his hands
it comes right off. ... Jesus greets me looks just like me. Police man.
Police stopped my brother again.
-- "W.M.A.," VS

It's been about three days now since I've been
aground. No longer overwhelmed and it seems so simple now. It's funny when
things change so much ... It's all state of mind. I swallowed my words to
keep from lying. I swallowed my face just to keep from biting. I swallowed
my breath and went deep I was diving I was diving. I surfaced and all of
my being was enlightened. Now I'm in hiding.
--"In Hiding," Yield
Here are all of the PJ
Albums I own: Ten - PJ's first
album hit the scene in the middle of the grunge movement. But the band
differed from others like Nirvana and Soundgarden. They were smarter ...
cleaner. Songs - Once | Even Flow |
Alive | Why Go | Black | Jeremy | Oceans | Porch | Garden | Deep |
Release. Quote -
Oh dear dad can you see me now. I am myself like
you somehow. I'll wait up in the dark for you to speak to me. How I've
opened up ... Release me. - "Release," Ten VS - When released
this album became the fastest selling album of all time (One million
copies in a week!). It kept all the fans from Ten and attracted even more.
Songs - Go | Animal |
Daughter | Glorified G | Dissident | W.M.A. | Blood | Rearviewmirror |
Rats | Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town | Leash |
Indifference. Quote -
I took a drive today time to emancipate. I guess
it was the beatings made me wise, but I'm not about to give thanks or
apologize. I couldn't breathe holdin' me down. Hand on my face pushed to
the ground. Enmity gauged united by fear. Forced to endure what I could
not forgive. I seem to look away the wounds in the mirror waved. It wasn't
my surface most defiled head at your feet, fool to your crown, fist on my
plate swallowed it down ... Saw things clearer. - "Rearviewmirror,"
VS. Vitalogy - Many Pearl
Jam fans don't like this album. The team kind of went through a slump here
and Eddie was the only one writing songs. But that doesn't mean the songs
stink - In fact, I think they're great. It may take a while for the album
to grow on you, but if you can appreciate where Mr. Vedder is coming from,
then this is a great album. Songs - Last Exit | Spin
the Black Circle | Not for You | Tremor Christ | Nothingman | Whipping |
Pry to | Corduroy | Bugs | Satan's Bed | Better Man | Aye Davanita |
Immortality | Hey Foxymophandlemama, That's Me. Quote -
Lives opened and trashed Look ma watch me crash.
No time to question why'd nothing last. Grasp and hold on we're dyin'
fast. Soon be over and I will relent. - "Last Exit,"
Vitalogy. No Code - This album
seems highly experimental. I wouldn't recommend buying it to anyone who is
just starting his or her Pearl Jam collection, but if you are a die hard
fan and can appreciate what the band has to offer, you'll love it. Songs - Sometimes | Hail,
Hail | Who You Are | In My Tree | Smile | Off He Goes | Habit | Red
Mosquito | Lukin | Present Tense | Mankind | I'm Open | Around the Bend. Quote -
Trampled marks on your souls. Changes all you're
a part. Seen it all not at all. Can't defend fucked up men. - "Who
You Are," No Code. Yield - This is Pearl
Jam's latest albums. I've heard people compare it to their first album and
"Given to Fly" to Led Zeppelin. One thing is for sure: This album is great
and I'd recommend it to anyone. Songs - Brain of J |
Faithfull | No Way | Given to Fly | Wishlist | Pilate | Do the Evolution |
* | MFC | Low Light | In Hiding | Push Me, Pull Me | All those Yesterdays. Quote -
"M.Y.T.H. is belief in the game. ... Controls
that keeps us in a box of fear ... We never listen voice inside so drowned
out ... drowned" - "Faithfull," Yield. Live on Two Legs
- This is the new live album from the
1998 tour. I've heard that not enough of their popular songs are included,
but Pearl Jam has never been a sell-out band. The album sounds like it's
one concert, but it actually was produced from several different shows. Songs - Corduroy | Given to
Fly | Hail, Hail | Daughter | Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small
Town | Untitled | MFC | Go | Red Mosquito | Even Flow | Off He Goes |
Nothingman | Do the Evolution | Better Man | Black | F*ckin' Up. Quote -
How quick the sun can drop away. And now my
bitter hands cradle broken glass of what was everything. All the pictures
have all been washed in black tattooed everything. All the love gone bad
turned my world to black. Tattooed all I see all that I am all I'll be. I
know someday you'll have a beautiful life I hope you'll be a star. In
somebody else's sky but why why why can't it be can't it be mine.
- "Black," Ten & Live on Two Legs. Binaural
- This album is due out May 16th. I'll do
a short review when I get it. Songs - Breakerfall | Gods'
Dice | Evacuation | Light Years | Nothing As It Seems | Thin Air |
Insignificance | Of The Girl | Grievance | Rival | Sleight Of Hand | Soon
Forget | Parting Ways | Typing Quote -
Bombs dropping down, overhead, on the ground.
This is a spell to overwhelm. Bombs dropping down. Please forgive our own
time in our insignificance. - "Insignificance," Binaural
I cannot stop the thought of running in the
dark. Coming up a which way sign. All good truants must decide.
--"Immortality," Vitalogy
And
here are the Singles and other Pearl Jam projects I own:
Even Flow -
Even Flow is perhaps one of my favorite songs from Ten, but Dirty Frank is
just plain weird. Songs - Even Flow | Dirty
Frank* | Oceans (re-mix). Quote -
Oh praying now to something that has never
showed him anything. Oh feeling understands the weather of the winters on
its way. Oh ceilings few and far between all the legal halls of shame
yeah. Even flow thoughts arrive like butterflies. Oh he don't know so he
chases them away. Oh someday yet he'll begin his life again. Oh whispering
hands gently lead him away. Mirrorball -
This is actually a Neil Young album, but since Pearl Jam served as the
band, I figured it was worthy of my list. Besides the album is great! Songs - Song X | Act of
Love | I'm the Ocean | Big Green Country | Truth Be Known | Downtown |
What Happened Yesterday | Peace and Love | Throw Your Hatred Down |
Scenery | Fallen Angel. Jeremy -
This is a great single for a new PJ fan(antic). Yellow Ledbetter is
wonderful and Jeremy is a classic. Songs - Jeremy | Footsteps*
| Yellow Ledbetter*. Quote -
Daddy didn't give affection no. And the boy was
something mommy wouldn't wear. King Jeremy the wicked ruled his world.
Jeremy spoke in class today. Wishlist - I
found this single for about $4.00. The live version of Brain of J isn't
the best, but U is still a great track, and Wishlist itself is a beautiful
piece. Songs - Wishlist | U* |
Brain of J (Live). Quote -
I wish I was the evidence. I wish I was the
crouds or 50 million hands upraised and open toward the sky. I wish I was
a sailor with someone who waited for me. I wish I was as fortunate as
fortunate as me. I wish I was a messenger and all the news good. I wish I
was the full moon shining off a Camaro's hood. Not for You -
I found this single online for
$2.00. I couldn't resist adding the B-side Out of My Mind to my
collection, so I went ahead and bought it. Besides, "Not for You" is an
awesome track. Songs - Not for You | Out
of My Mind*. Quote -
All that's sacred comes from youth. Dedication
naive and true. With no power nothing to do, I still remember why don't
you don't you. Merkinball -
This is a great addition to the
Pearl Jam fan's collection. The band put it together during the time
between Vitalogy and No Code. It goes along with Neil Young's album
Mirrorball, which features Pearl Jam as the band. Many fans refer to the
two songs on this single as some of the best PJ has ever written.
Songs - I Got Id* | The
Long Road*. Quote -
Holding hands are daughters and sons and their
faiths are falling down. I have wished for so long. How I wish for you
today. Will I walk the long road? - "The Long Road,"
Merkinball Go - "Go" is
a great upbeat track from VS. The acoustic version of "Elderly Woman ..."
is basically just a guitar and Eddie singing. But if you want Alone, and
you find the single for $2.00 (as I did), then it's worth it. Songs - Go | Elderly Woman
Behind the Counter in a Small Town (Acoustic Version) | Alone*. Quote -
Once fastened servile now your getting sharp.
Moving oh so swiftly with such disarm. I pulled the covers over him
shoulda' pulled the alarm. Turned to my nemesis a fool no fucking god. Given to Fly -
This is a wonderful Single. If you aren't sure
whether Pearl Jam is the right band for you and you can find this single
(non-import version is much cheaper), then buy it. Of course, if you
already have Yield, the only reason to buy this single would be for the
B-side Leatherman. Believe me - it's worth it. I bought the single
(import) for $10.99 and the only new song I found was Leatherman, but I
still don't regret it. Songs - Given to Fly |
Pilate | Leatherman*. Quote -
He floated back down cause he wanted to share
this key to the locks on the chains he saw everywhere. But first he was
stripped and then he was stabbed by faceless men well fuckers he still
stands. And he still gets his love he just gives it away. The love he
receives is the love that is saved. And sometimes is seen a strange spot
in the sky, a human being that was given to fly. Animal -
This single isn't anything special. If you want live versions of songs,
it's probably best to download MP3s (I've got some links on this site).
Since PJ doesn't mind if you trade their live performances, this would be
a wise choice. Songs - Animal | Animal
(Live) | Jeremy (Live). Quote -
Said one two three four five against one. ...
Torture from you to me. ... Abducted from the street um. I'd rather be
with an animal." Singles Soundtrack -
This is a compilation of a lot of artists -
Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Mother Love Bone, etc. - but I will only
list the songs that Pearl Jam plays below. Both are great songs but are
somehow just "leftovers" from the Ten album. I don't know how anyone could
pass off these two songs as not worthy of being album tracks. Songs - Breath | State of
Love and Trust. Quote -
Life ain't what it's worth. A breath and a ...
reach the door. All these reaching hands out grabbing things. ...Grabbing
me. Day in day out accumulating. Whoa, I suggest you step out on your
porch. ... Run away my son see it all oh see the world. -
"Breath," Singles Alive -
Alive is a great track, but again I wouldn't put too much money into this
single unless, of course, you're a die-hard fan or you can find the
non-import version. Songs - Alive | Once |
Wash*. Quote -
Son, she said, have I got a little story for
you. What you thought was your daddy was nothing but a. ...While you were
sitting home alone at age thirteen, your real daddy was dyin'. Sorry you
didn't see him but I'm glad we talked. ... I'm still alive. Alive (live) - This
is a great CD. If it were cheaper and easier to get, I would recommend
that every Pearl Jam fan had one. However, the single is a Japanese import
and can cost over $20. The version of Alive is probably the best live cut
I've ever heard. But the real treat, the reason why I bought the CD in the
first place, is the Re-recorded version of Even Flow. GOD IT'S AWESOME! I
looked all over for the mp3, but after failing miserably to find it, I
broke down and bought the single. Believe me, if you are a serious PJ fan,
you must have this CD. Songs - Alive (live)* |
Even Flow (Re-recorded)* | Wash* | Dirty Frank* Quote -
Is there something wrong? She said. Of course
there is. You're still alive she said. Do I deserve to be? Is that the
question? And if so ... Who Answers? *B-sides / Not found on albums Nothing as it Seems -
Although I like these two new songs, I would not recommend buying the
single, especially since the album Binaural has both of them. Unless of
course, you're a crazy fan like me, and you can't wait until the May 16th
release date. Songs - Nothing as it Seems
| Insignificance. Quote -
Don't feel like home. Ease a little out. And all
these words alone, there's nothing like your poem. Putting in and putting
in, don't feel like methadone. A scratching voice all alone; there's
nothing like your baritone ... It's nothing as it seems. The little that
he needs, it's home. The little that he sees, is nothing he concedes ...
it's home.
You can spend your time alone ... redigesting
past regrets. Or you can come to terms and realize ... you're the only one
who can forgive yourself . Makes much more sense to live in the present
tense.
