Ford
Probe 1993 Mechanic’s Special for sale cheap to the best offer to make room
for a new car. The car will be sold by “sealed bid” to the highest bidder.
In “sealed bid” auctions the bidders do not learn the high bid until the
auction is over. The
car has 98.5K miles. The 1993 is the best year for Probes, a joint
venture between Mazda and Ford that produced an exciting car that is lots of fun
to drive. Automatic transmission, but it needs repair (gears sometime engage,
sometimes not--diagnosis unknown). Towing is negotiable. This Probe is a fire-engine
red (called Rio Red), two-door sporty
looking hatchback that accelerates like a rocket yet gets great gas mileage (20
city/28 highway) on regular gas yet is easy to park in San Francisco. It has
dual racing mirrors, air conditioning, power everything, AM/FM cassette, and
indispensable cruise control for freeway driving. It seats four persons with the
ability to cram a fifth in the rear seats for short distances. The rear seats
fold down to create a large cargo bay that can hold a mountain bike or 20 large
boxes. The car will be sporty reliable transportation after transmission repair
by someone who likes to work on cars. The book value of the car does not justify
paying a garage to repair the transmission. The front end could use alignment to
minimize tire wear, but the car operates well with the alignment as is. The
muffler has a small hole which gives the car an attractive race-car sound
without being a nuisance to neighbors or violating any California smog
regulations. The
car passed California smog tests last year, and its registration tags are
current until April 2006. It has new brakes (front & rear), four new Pirelli
wide-track radial tires under 60,000 mile warranty (including road hazard), a
new generator, new cooling system hoses, new emission equipment, and new belts
(including timing) on the engine. The engine runs fine with negligible oil
consumption for 7500 miles. Cosmetically
the car’s paint is heavily oxidized with some rust spots, so a fussy new owner
may wish to get an Earl Scheib $200 new paintjob. The car has small dents and
scrapes in the left rear. The car interior is red. The interior driver-side door
paneling could use repair, but it does not interfere with function. Except for
two small holes in the driver’s seat, the car’s upholstery is in fine
condition. You can inspect the car by yourself in front of 1411 40th Avenue @ Judah, San Francisco (the 24-hour N Judah Muni Metro stops across the street). Call me on my cell at (415) 309-9405 anytime for an appointment if you are a serious buyer who wants me to run the engine. No test drive is possible due to the broken transmission. If you do not have an appointment, please do not ring the doorbell. Email me your bid on the entire car or any parts. Thanks for looking. |
