Obituary of Tom C. Maples
as written in "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 22 Dec 1933.

Camilla, Georgia.
Mr. Tom C. Maples, former Mitchell Countian who for several
years has made his home in Jacksonville, Fla., died last Thursday, 14 Dec 1933, night
about 1:00 AM as a result of injuries received in a fall. With two or three friends Mr.
Maples was leaving a place where they had attended a dance. The entrance was some six
feet above the sidewalk and as they were about half way down the steps Mr. Maples
tripped and fell backward, his head striking the top step, from which point he rolled to the
sidewalk. It was at once recognized that he had been seriously hurt and he was rushed to
a hospital, but was dead when examined by an attendant. The examination disclosed that
his neck was broken by the fall. The deceased was a son of Mr. J. F. Maples, of this
county, where he was born and reared. He was 30 years of age and is survived by a wife
and two daughters, eight and ten years of age, by a previous marriage. Besides his father,
he is also survived by three brothers and three sisters, Mr. Alonzo Maples, Mrs. C. R.
Shiver and Mrs. John Cook of Camilla; Mr. Jamie Maples of Newton; Mr. Byron Maples
of Cuthbert; and Mrs. H. D. Culpepper of Perry, Fla. Funeral services were held in
Jacksonville at 2:00 PM Sunday, 17 Dec 1933, and interment was in Oaklawn cemetery
at that place. Mr. Maples was an insurance salesman and had been quite successful in
this line of work. Many old friends in this county have been grieved by the news of his
death and extend sympathy to the family.
