This site is dedicated to the Maples family from Camilla Georgia. The Maples family is one of the first pioneering families in Camilla Georgia. The Maples of Camilla Georgia came from Moore County North Carolina prior to 1850. Based on the Decatur County Land Lottery Nathan Maples Sr. had land in Georgia in 1827. In the 1830 census Nathan Maples and his family showed up in Baker County Georgia. Prior to the Civil War which started in 1861 the family crossed over the Flint River and settled in Mitchell County Georgia. Nathan Maples Sr. became the first Treasurer of Mitchell County Georgia in the year 1858 (see photo of historical marker below). Nathan Maples Sr. would not come home from the Civil war. He died while serving as a private in Nelson's Independent Company, GA Cav.
