HOPEFUL BAPTIST CHURCH CEMETERY, Mitchell County, Ga.
From Pelham, Ga.: Take Ga. 65 to Hopeful, Ga., cross Ga.
97 and you will see the back of Hopeful Baptist Church on
the left. The cemetery is across the paved road in front
of the church.
From Camilla, Ga.: Take Ga. 97 to Hopeful, Ga., turn
right on Ga. 65 and you will see the back of the Hopeful
Baptist Church. The cemetery is across the paved road in
front of the church.
The cemetery is not laid out in straight rows. Graves
are located between rows, etc., and some lots cover more
than one row. I tried to keep it as close to rows as
possible, and at the same time, keep the family graves
together that are in the same lot. Start at the north-
east corner (with your back to the church and facing the
cemetery, start in the right hand corner. The “rows’ go
from right to left. James L. Piland, Jr. did this survey
on 23 January 2002. Personal remarks enclosed in ( ).
(The church has undertaken marking of all graves that are
not marked, therefore, you will see a lot of “Known only
to God” markers. The church has no records as to who
may be buried in these graves.)
