From "The Fly" up through "The Hands That Built America," this DVD has it all, minus the videos for "Elevation" and "Walk On," which were
probably saved for when the band might decide to do The Best Of 2000-2010. You can find the video for "Elevation" on the Tomb Raider DVD, and the
"Walk On" video is on a DVD single. Different versions of videos for "One," "Until The End Of The World," and "Even Better Than The Real Thing" can
be found on the Achtung Baby video on VHS.
By the early nineties, the band started shooting videos on a bigger budget. Some of them are very creative,
while others are just plain weird. "Evem Better Than The Real Thing" has cool effects on it, where Bono is dressed in his Fly outfit.
He dresses normally in videos like "One" (except for when the band is in drag!) and "Mysterious Ways." For the songs that didn't have much of a video for - "Gone,"
"Miss Sarajevo," and "Until The End Of The World," - they have concert performances of them.
The videos for Pop and All That You Can't Leave Behind were much more upfront than those on Zooropa and Achtung Baby. The band makes an appearance on
all of them, except for "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me," which is an animated, standout video featuring the characters of The Fly and Mr. MacPhisto.
"Discotheque" and "Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of" are probably the two best videos from the Pop/ATYCLB eras.
"Electrical Storm" starred Larry and a mermaid, which is elaborated on a mini-documentary. In my opinion, the best version of that song is on
the B-Sides of the CD. I didn't think the song was all that great until I heard that particular version. It would be a great song for them to play live,
and I'm sure they will, but who's to tell how often.
Suprisingly, the extras are great on this DVD. The mini-documentaries are insightful,
and worth the viewing of any fan. Several bonus videos were worth watching as well.
"The Ground Beneath Her Feet" has a great video, and it's even greater to watch if you've seen
The Million Dollar Hotel. A mainstream version of "Please" is played during the video, and it's a great audio version to convert to mp3.
The humorous "Lemon" is decorated by MacPhisto's stage movements, and the band going along with all the weirdness.
If you buy the CD, you will get a DVD called The History Mix, which is entertaining even if you know the whole story.
You can tell that the band spent a lot of time putting together this collection. While Jon was mental enough to trade it in, I still think
that every fan should have it. I'm sure the band would agree, since they spent countless hours and dollars making these videos. My one and only complaint
is that they take a few verses out of a couple of songs. Don't let that stop you from purchasing this one though.
