There is little written about Mary Madalen's life before she met Jesus. It is said that when she met Him she knelt at His feet, saying nothing, while she bathed them with her tears, wiped them clean with the hair of her head, and kissed them with humility. She then poured costly ointment upon them. Jesus is said to have loved her so dearly and He raised her brother Lazarus from the dead. On the eve if His Passion, it is said that the Magdalen once again brought expensive ointment and poured it upon His head. Mary Magdalen stood at the foot of the cross with the Holy Mother and Saint John while Jesus died. She is said to be the one who stood guard at His tomb and who discovered it empty after the third day. He showed himself first to her after his resurrection and through her, He gave the certainty of his resurrection to His Apostles.

Does it seem peculiar to anyone else that almost all depictions of Biblical "characters" are European in appearance? I know several people from Israel and none of them look like they're from northern Europe! Notice that there are only two non-white depictions of the Magdalen here...they are the ONLY ones I have found thus far.

Prayer to Saint Mary Magdalen Saint Mary Magdalen, woman of many sins, who by conversion became the beloved of Jesus, thank you for your witness that Jesus forgives through the miracle of love. You, who already possess eternal happiness in His glorious presence, please intercede for me, so that some day I may share in the same everlasting joy. Amen.
