     Now that you have completed this WebQuest, you will have learned more about Kate DiCamillo and the State of Florida, where her stories took place.

     In addition, you should have a greater understanding of the lives and experiences of India Opal Buloni and Rob Horton as well as others who touched them in one or more ways.

     A common theme in both books was the emptiness and loneliness felt from the loss of a parent. Also, some characters were treated differently because of their appearance and were bullied or excluded by others because they were “different”.

     The issue of bullying is a problem encountered by nearly everyone at some point in his or her life.  Books which you may have read such as Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli and Holes by Louis Sachar contain characters who are bullies. 

     Recall some fictional characters you have read about who have been affected by this problem. Next, read the article, “Bullies Beware” included on the “RESOURCES” page.  Then join your classmates in a discussion to share your thoughts and real-life experiences with bullies.
