John Carpenter's VAMPIRES
Review: John Carpenter tries very hard to bring audiences great movies. Some of his works include the cult classic and "original" horror film "HALLOWEEN". But with a good filmmaking career, there has to be some bad films as well. While VAMPIRES attempts to be a good overall film, trying desperately to entertain horror and action fans alike, it loses the basic elements of a good thriller and turns into nothing more then a slugfest. While the plot is definitely worth a look at (a super-strong vampire lord seeks a black cross that gives the wielder the ability to walk in the sunlight), the movie fails to work out this plot and allow it to mature.  John Woods does a good job as the leader of a task force of Vampire Hunters. His "bad ass" persona of a rough and toughened veteran of the supernatural is nicely played. But he doesnt help this movie get any better.
Final Verdict: While VAMPIRES is definitely not the greatest film in the horror/action genre, it is worth at least one look at. It ahd some nice scenes in it, and few movies can say they had a "hotel scene" as good as this one does. (Just rent it and see for yourselves)
Cast: James Woods, Daniel Baldwin.
