Borges Has a Point |
"I suppose every poet has his own private mythology. maybe he's unaware of it. People tell me I have evolved a private mythology of tigers, of blades, of labyrinths, and I'm unaware of the fact this is so. My readers are finding it all the time. But I think perhaps that is the duty of poets." -Borge in an interview with Daniel Bourne and Stephen Cape - April 25 1980 |

a meditation on the responsibility of a poet by Allen J. Freedman |

I think there is a common theme of the duty or responsibility of poets to bring forth the unseen or unimaginable. It's important to make yourself heard and to be the voice of others who can't or won't speak. Poets have deeper meaning within their writing, but sometimes it's extremely clear. People often miss the point when they look beyond the surface, where the answer is. Poets have the responsibility to be poets. |
