A Texas Talk with Spur

There are many younger people in this world who spend a lot of time surfing the Net. Many of those people are college students. Some college students have a very small focus in life -- having sex and partying until you pass out. Spur is not quite like these other students. Sure, he'll jump at the chance to do any of these things, but his life is not centered around them. Spur is a warm, caring person, someone I met by chance in the Hotel Chat, and who has taken me much by surprise, on more than one occasion.

Question: Is there anything about yourself you would like to reveal to the virtual world?

Spur(m): Just the fact that I'm a hopeless romantic that believes in the power of a hug and the strength in understanding...

Question: We've met through the chat server Hotel Chat. Why do you spend so much time there?

Spur(m): I found it from word of mouth about it. I decided to give it a try. Once I started, I was hooked....

Question: We've spend a lot of time talking about personal issues. Do you find it easier to talk through this medium about delicate situations, and why?

Spur(m): When you pour out your heart, you need someone to trust. Even though it doesn't give all that much trust, this medium does give you animitity that can replace that trust. Animitity leads to you being able to "let it all out" without experiencing any ill consequences, that you may incounter via personal interaction.

Question: Through our conversations, I have found out you're a college student. What do you study, why did you choose this field, and what do you hope to get from this line of work (other than a job)?

Spur(m): I started college with the notion of becoming a areonautical engineer. That soon was narrowed to electrical engineering. After taking the freshman level courses that would land me this degree, I ran into one particular obsticle that stopped me dead in my tracks- Physics... I have taken Physics twice and failed both times. This led me to start considering other options. I have now decided on Accounting. I'm a math nerd, so I think it may be right up my alley. I would like to become a CPA and ultimately wish to be successful enough to be content with my worldly possessions.

Question: The Hotel Chat is filled with sexual innuendos and what's commonly known as cybersex. Do you partake in these activities, and why?

Spur(m): I was curious the first time I tried it. There have been good ones and bad. The bad ones usually lack imagination and intellect. I think the whole charade is just a simple exercise of the mind. To be creative and wild, yet not hurting anyone and without any regrets...

Question: Your father is in the Military, in the U.S. How has that shaped your way of thinking?

Spur(m): I have become VERY close with my family. Friends may come and friends may go, but my family will always be there. I also have become fascinated by travel, to see new sights, meet new people, try different things, and be exposed to other cultures.

Question: What has the ethereal world of the Web brought to your life, and how has that changed your outlook on life?

Spur(m): It has given me an avenue to releave my loneliness from time to time, a friendly shoulder to cry on and has given me a few laughs. It has shown me that I am someone that is great to talk to, that has really helped in the Self-esteem area. To have people that say hello as soon as they see me makes me smile, even if they are thousands of miles away...

Question: Is there a song that you see as your personal theme, either in the way you view life, or how life has treated you? Explain.

Spur(m): "It's a Beautiful Day" by Queen. The lyrics read, "It's a beautiful day. The sun is shining, I feel good, I feel right, and no one's gonna stop me now..." I have been taught to do the best, whatever is in your way. If my best wasn't good enough, then I realize that does not make ME a failure, just one that can't do that particular task, so a failure will not stop me. I find something that I can do that makes me happy and I do what I love.

Question: What is the strongest force you know of, and why?

Spur(m): Love. I'm not a relgious man. I believe that love is the ONLY thing worth living for. Money, power, sex... all can be replaced or can be done without. Love, however, is the drive inside us to get up every morning to face the day, whether to do for those you love or to rise to find one to love.

Question: What's your favorite food?

Spur(m): Arroz con Pollo. Mexican dish with chicken and rice.
