This was one of my earliest Earth shots.  I was testing a city lights imagemap.  
I think it created an interesting effect.

Post-processing:
Jasc Paint Shop Pro 7.0

I gave it a Uniform Noise filter of 5% to give it a little grain.  I used a little Automatic Color Balance for some color correction and the Clarify tool to enhance the contrast.
