So, like me you have never heard of a Mountain Pie? OK I'll tell you about it! Its basically a sandwich made in a cast aluminum or cast iron device that you cook over the fire. The device has two sides, either square or circular in shape and a hinge at the top where they connect. You butter the bread, place it in the Mountain Pie Maker, top it with whatever you wish (though my best friend's family is partial to pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese and occasionally pepperoni) top with the second slice of bread and close it up. The long handles have a clamp on the end to keep it closed. Now you toast it over or in the open fire, making sure to get it golden brown, NOT burnt...unless you like it that way of course. What comes out is a fabulous snack or meal. I'll list variations back in the recipe section.
