mary voisine’s portfolio
http://www.mehs.educ.state.ak.us/portfolios/maryv/projects/eng2.html
overview: mary is a high school student who made this site for her class.
in the functionality, she used a variety of basic tools as well as context specific tools. for example, she used pictures, text, and a slide show in her portfolio.
in her multidisciplinary tasks, she did content specific tasks, but there appeared to be little connection among them in the portfolio.
in the student roles, we believe she had the opportunity to explore topics of interest without making connections to the curriculum. for example, she talked about her family and dorm life. she didn’t connect these topics to her studies.
overall, mary did a great job on her portfolio. it was visually appealing and her content was strong. we wonder what the requirements of the project were because there appeared to be little connection across topics and while she had a lot of content not all of it related to her studies.
coast to cascades: an english language journey
http://www.tiua.edu/american_studies/spring_97_classes/~coast_cascades/portfolios overview: this page was for a class of english language learners. in the words of the professor “this section will include the work of students throughout the semester, as well as student and faculty introductions” . students used a few basic tools including pictures, text and audio. (we never actually heard the audio, so we wonder if it is the teachers or students talking)!
in terms of tasks, we feel that the students must have integrated multiple disciplines to complete the task. we feel that to clean the stream they must have discussed the stream in scientific terms as well as read and read and researched the topic.
it was difficult to determine the assessments and student roles from this website. however, we believe that these activities were very structured because they are english language learners and elementary school students.
overall, this site was not as extensive as some of the other ones we viewed. it also appeared that the students had little input into the web page.
(we then went on a google search and found this site…)
art portfolio mr. olejarz’s
http://www.ridgewood.k12.nj.us/www/bf/teachers/olejarz/students/
overview: this portfolio page was for mr. olejarz’s art class. it included work from different times in the school year.
students used one tool to make the portfolio page. this site had wonderful pictures, but didn’t include a description of the piece, or a reflection component.
the tasks were all content specific, they all only showed artwork. however, within the art class they used a variety of mediums to create their artwork and showed these different mediums on their portfolio page. we liked that they were able to pick a piece to show in their portfolio, this showed some student choice. it is difficult to determine the assessment and student roles. we would guess that the teacher controlled most of the design of the portfolio page.
overall, this site had great pictures and would have been even better if a reflection piece had been included.
(then, you emailed us a new site to look at…)
chris malec
overview: chris is a matl student at roosevelt university. she created this portfolio for class.
in the functionality, she did a great job! she used a lot of different tools including, scanned images, digital pictures, power point, and word!
her multidisciplinary tasks were excellent! she was able to integrate all aspects of the course into her website!
we were able to determine the assessment standards, because we believe they are similar to what we are expected to complete. she had a link for student assessment. in it, she showed a variety of assessment techniques she planned on using with her students.
if one views christine as the student, she had the opportunity to discuss herself on a personal level. she included links to things she enjoys doing (such as ebay).
overall, this portfolio was outstanding! it was easy to follow and understand. she included so much information that was useful to people viewing her site. it was especially helpful to see the completed portfolio page for this course.
tracy keeling
http://www.geocities.com/sunshine1978_1998/
overview: tracy is a matl student at roosevelt university. her web page was based on a rainforest theme for her students.
in terms of functionality she used a variety of tools including a web quest, power point, word and scanned images.
her multidisciplinary tasks are great. she included all subject areas in order to complete the unit.
she used a variety of assessment standards that were developed by her and explained to the students. this included a journal, a rubric, and a conference time with her.
overall, this portfolio page was a good example of what teachers can put on the web to explain assignments.
