Tell me..am I the lone person in this world who takes offense to the screaming mini ads on television? It seems the powers that be have decided to sell us their so-so products simply by harming our hearing. Car ads started it. Then comes insurance companies. Then the clothing stores add their noise into the mix. I could go on and on but I won't. Instead I will tell you of a happening just the other day.
There was a time the VCR was state of the art equipment. Under my bed I have stored my favorites. The aim of saving was to rerun distinctly super programs, and I pulled the lot of them out from their cozy crypt...and proceeded to watch these tapes. Most were of complete programs, commercials and all. I sat and watched all, reveling in the softer, entertaining commercials along with the memorable programs saved.
I sat deep in thought. Why did commercials change from pleasing to grating? I liked it better as it had been then. What makes them think that annoying messages would indeed convince the public to spend our hard earned bucks on that abuse? And it is abusive. The louder, most offensive ads I dismiss automatically.
Watching those video tapes of yesterday was like a trip back to a better time...times we may never see again. Well, I won't bore you with this gripe. What a shame we cannot turn back the years and enjoy commercials that were made not only to sell, but to entertain as well. |
