The Texas Mission: June 2003
Aurora, Myself and San Juanita (SJ) where the only volunteers left from the 2000 group.
Erlen, Diana and Marisela are the new local volunteers whom I met at the Mission in Texas.
What we do at the Arise Summer Program is activities with the kids.  Here we have a Water-Sponge contest, extremely fun and wet!
What the kids most like to do is play soccer.  Here we have the toddlers playing a soccer game. Is the ticks against the termites!  Go Ticks!
This is a picture of the volunteers teaching the kids how to fill balloons with flour, not sure what for?  Jesus' (volunteer) face gets caught in an awkard moment to the right side of the pic.
Here is a group pictures with all the local volunteers, they were all extremely cool and funny.  They are an amazing group of dedicated people!
(Right) I took a trip down to the beach at San Pedro Island (about 1 hour away). No directions, no map, just followed the smell of the ocean!
(Left) We tried craming 5 people into Jesus' truck.  Is there room for me in that truck?

The Texas Mission is an outreach program that is sponsored by my alma matter, Assumption College.  I had the opportunity to go in 2000 with an amazing group from my school.  This time I went by myself and although it was not as much fun (too many lonely nights) it was a very fulfilling and beautiful experience.  The mission consisted of spending a week in a small community called Muniz near McAllen, TX.  One spends all week with the kids (ages 3-16) doing various activities (but they all mostly want to play soccer!).  The center that sponsors the activities is called ARISE.  They are a group of women from the community trying to help the community.  I am glad I was able to do it one more time.
