Prominent education centres such as the Malaysian Maritime Academy - Alam and Institut Teknologi, the Terendak Army camp and the National Rela Training Centre are located here. Many Malays are employed in factories here or are are small-holders. While the Chinese are involved in business, pig farming in Paya Mengkuang and fishing along the coastal areas, the Indians are mainly small-holders and estate workers. A number of popular beach resorts are located here. Members of the Camp Terendak and commando unit in Sg Ujong account for over 8,400 votes.
