My name is Jamie Kolpas. I was born on December 27, 1983. I am 18 years old, and will be attending UCSB in the fall. My only sister will be at UCSB with me as a grad student. Both of my parents are teachers. My mother teaches at Reseda High School, and my father teaches at Glendale College. Ever since I was two years old, I have wanted to dance. I blame the whole thing on my sister(Just kidding!!). Actually, I did start because of my her. My sister, was taking tap classes while she was around three years old. My mother would always take me to observe her classes. By the time that I was two, I was trying to participate in the class, and so my mother decided to have me take my own tap classes. This is why I am dancing today. And, it is also thanks to my sister that I am in ballet classes. When I was six, my sister had started to take some ballet classes. I would always watch her with envy, wanting so badly to take ballet class. Finally, my mother allowed me to take a ballet class, and even though it was really hard I kept at it.

*How I got into Arts High*
Actually, I am lucky that I actually had heard of Arts High. I didn't even know that it existed. I found out from a modern teacher that I took a class from at my dance studio, who teaches at arts high. When she told me about the high school, I knew that it was for me. I needed a school that allowed me to have a good academic program, and also have a good arts program. If I had gone to another school, I would have still gotten the academic part, but I wouldn't have had the opportunity to perfect my art. So when the teacher told me about the school, I immediatly applied. I had to fill out many applications, and forms. Then, I had to go to an audition in my art area, to see if I was a trainable student. Well, of course of got in, since I am writing about it. I am so happy that I am able to train here.

*At Arts High*
I use to have to wake up at 5:30 every morning to begin my day. By 6 in the morning I have finished my breakfast and gone to the train station to get to school. By 7:40 I have finially made it to school. This year I am studying Chemistry, US History, AP Calculus AB, and English. All of my classes are challenging, and also fun. Then, in the afternoon, I take my dance classes. On mondays and wednesdays I have ballet, on tuesdays and thursdays modern, point on wednesdays, and choreography on fridays. LACHSA is a very vigourous school that requeres lots of dedication, hard work, and passion.

*My Future*
To be honest, I don't really know what I want to do with my life. I will be at college, but I am sill not sure of what to do with my life. Of course I will do dancing in college.
