What is a Polaroid Transfer Image?
A Polaroid Transfer Image is an artistic photographic process
which can take on different moods. It can appear to be a
watercolor, a monoprint or maybe a Victorian postcard.
The two piece Polaroid film used is a dye process. Were the
image from the chemically coated negatrive side is transfered
to the photographic paper side.
The image which normally would be absorbed into the
photograpic paper is instead absorbed into a prepared
surface of any natural fiber such as cloth, wood or paper.
Most of my work is done on parchment paper.
The Polaroid film is exposed with an image and processed as
normal. However the film is seperated after only 10 seconds
instead of the normal 60 seconds. Before the image can
transfer on to the photographic paper.
The negative side, normally discarded, is pressed on to the
natural fiber surface. A combination of heat, pressure, water
and time are used on the negative and paper. The steps and
times vary depending on the desired effect.
The negative and the paper are then separated and the image
has transfered to the surface. Creating a one of a kind
photographic image.
