Family is first found in the Union County PA 1850 Census. At that time their name was spelled Woodling. When they are found in the Tazewell Co Census, their name is spelled Woodley. They must have moved sometime between 1856 and 1860 to Illinois where they are found in the 1860 Census for Pekin City, Tazewell Co. IL. In the census it had six of their children born in PA and the 7th and 8th child listed as born in IL.

The family settled in the Cincinnati Twp, Tazewell Co. IL. where they are found in the 1860, 1870, and 1880 census. After the death of Juliann, Samuel is found living in Manito, Mason Co. with his daughter Julia Ann and son-in-law Jacob Roush. The 1910 Manito Twp, Mason Co. census shows Samuel Woodley living with his daughter Julia Ann and Jacob Roush. His Son Franklin also is living in the household.
