Chapter 5: The Dismal Future

Edge Damon slowly made his way over to the Calgez inn. Although the young warrior appeared to be in no rush to reach his destination his heart was filled with much anticipation. A nervous feeling slowly crept over his body once he reached the inn and swung open the door. The nervousness was mixed in with an excited feeling since he knew that the first spot of his destination was finally within reach.

This is where I must go. Edge spoke softly so that only he could hear. Slowly he made his way over to the innkeeper and waited patiently for the man to come over to him.

Do ya need a room? The innkeeper asked.

Edge shook his head from side to side and then pointed to the stairs, which were to the left of him. Are your rooms up there? Edge asked.

Yes, they are. The innkeeper replied.

I am supposed to meet a man here today. Edge explained. He is expecting me.

Is your name Edge? The innkeeper asked.

Aye, it is. Edge replied.

Ah, yes! The innkeeper shouted. A man came in here last night, told me hed be expecting a man named Edge today. You can find him upstairs, its the second door on youre left.

Thank you. Edge said as he slowly bowed to the man. He then made his way up the small staircase. So now, it truly begins.

On the other side of town Caleb Soreus walked alone towards his destination. While walking he glanced over the town along with its people. Like much of what he was used to the town was quaint and peaceful. He was a peaceful person after all and was never one to so hurriedly resort to violence that was unless it was the only way.

His boots crunched down harder on the gravely path as he began to pick up his pace slightly. The anxious feeling was growing in his body with every determined step he took. There also was a relieved feeling in his heart now that he had found a small group of traveling partners. Silently he hoped that they would all stick together after their venture in Calgez, no one should have to travel alone.

He finally reached the small house that was his destination. It seemed to be quaint just like everything else in the town. Yet, Caleb realized that residing inside of the small house was a great mage.

Im so excited. Caleb said. As he walked up to the door he knocked two times and then patiently waited. I finally get to learn a new spell, wow Ive been looking forward to this for a few months now!

***

At the moment Weazel was in a position he was used to being for quite some time now; he was alone. That didnt seem to bother him much though, for as long as he could remember he had traveled on his own. There was a certain freedom to traveling by yourself but then again it did have its drawbacks.

I hope this weapons shop is good. Weazel muttered as he reached the small store and walked inside. If they dont have anything I want, Im going to be really annoyed. Thats definitely not a good thing.

Inside of the shop was certainly nothing that caught the eye. The store was plain looking to say the least but it did have quite a few things different fighters would desire. One wall was dedicated to swords, daggers and lances while another to chains, whips, and staffs. At the counter of the store rested a display of several different types of throwing knives along with an assortment of different armors.

They have a lot of stuff. Weazel muttered as he made his way to the desk. But it doesnt look like they have any Cybernetic Enhancements, especially what Im looking for.

Can I help you? The owner of the store asked.

Maybe. Weazel replied. Do you happen to have a bigger jet than the one I have now? Weazel turned around a moment to show the owner the small jet pack on his back he then turned back around to face him. Im really looking to upgrade and I got a wad of cash with your name on it if you can do it.

Im sorry sirwe dont offer any cybernetic enhancements here. The owner replied. Were a small store and to carry those things would more than likely send us for broke.

Didnt anyone ever tell you being small isnt a good thing. Weazel muttered.

Im sorry I cant help you but if you need anything else in here Id gladly sell it to you. The owner replied.

Thats all I want. Weazel shot back.

Well in that case I cant help you but if you wish across the river is a larger town called Margel. The owner said. Im almost certain youll be able to find what you want there.

Ill check that out then. Weazel replied.

Joe found himself sitting across from Kayla at one of the tables located in the bar. The two had now sat in silence for several moments while Kayla fixed her hair and adjusted her long robe. A certain feeling of impatience was swelling up inside Joe but he managed to keep it down for the moment.

I cant believe I had to travel all this way to look for somebody. Kayla muttered while continuing to fix her hair.

And I cant believe I woke up inwell wherever the hell I am. Joe shot back. So now that we both cant believe something why dont you start telling me stuff.

Be patient. Kayla replied as she continued fixing her hair.

Just about all out of patience. Joe replied. Yesterday I was in the city and today Im traveling through open fields chopping down weird wolf things, half human freaks and big ass robots. Needless to say Kayla, Im not a very patient man right now.

Do you like it here? Kayla asked as she finally turned her eyes to Joe and stopped fixing her hair.

I want to go home. Joe replied.

Thats not what I asked you. Kayla shot back. I asked you if you liked it here.

Look, you said you were going to answer questions for me so how about you stop asking me questions and let me ask you some. Joe replied his annoyance growing by the moment.

Youve got an attitude, thats good. Kayla said as a smirk appeared on her lips. Just watch you mouth with me cause I wont hesitate.

You wont hesitate? Joe asked.

I can do things to you that youve never even heard of. Kayla replied.

Okthat sounds kinda kinky Joe muttered. Uh, if you meant was I looking for someone in that way, maybe some other day, what Im here for is information not-

ARE YOU STUPID!! Kayla shouted as he jumped out of her chair and slammed her hands on the table.

Half the bar turned around upon hearing her scream out in anger. Seconds later they returned to what they were doing before but it did appear if she continued the way she was shed certainly turn more heads.

Well Im not stupid but Joe muttered as he leaned back in his chair. You certainly are making a scene.

Im not here to offer you- Kayla started.

Then what are you here for! Joe shouted. I dont even know who you are other than youre names Kayla Magnus.

Kayla slowly sat back down and shook her head several times. You could call me a white mage or a sorceress. Kayla said.

Another magical person Joe muttered.

Yes, I can heal people along with some other abilities. Kayla explained. But let us get down to business. You believe it is the year 2049, correct?

Thats what it was last time I checked. Joe replied.

The year is 4049. Kayla started. You were brought here by someone, I am not sure who but the reason for this is-

Joe cut her off again, I dont care about the reason, if I find this person who brought me here can they send me back?

Would you just listen! Kayla shouted. You were brought here for a reason.

Why the hell would I be brought here for a reason? Joe asked.

I believe it has something to do with Gallus second coming. Kayla said.

Gallwho? Joe asked.

***

Edge reached the top of the stairs and made his way towards the second door on the left. Upon reaching the door he stood before it for a moment and took in a deep breath. Edge then knocked on the door and waited for a response.

Come in. A low voice on the other side of the door said.

Edge gripped the doorknob and slowly turned it. He pushed the door open and entered the room.

The room was dark and filled with a smell of incense. Even through the darkness Edge could spot the figure of a man sitting down on a chair next to a small round table.

Close the door. The man said.

Edge nodded and closed the door. He then made his way over to the table and stood on the opposite side, patiently waiting for the man to speak once again.

You are Edge Damon? The man asked.

Aye, I am. Edge replied.

Yes The man said. I can smell youre scent. You are for certain a Lycan you are the one. Are you prepared for this great journey you have embarked upon?

Aye. Edge replied.

What is your mission? The man asked.

I, Edge Damon, will travel across the world to gain the powers necessary to defeat Gallu. Edge replied. It is my destiny to battle Gallu to the death, he will die at my hands, whether I survive the battle is not important. If I must die to defeat Gallu, then so be it.

Then you are prepared. The man said. As one of the Elders of the Gumi Tribe, Edge Damon, I ask you to take out the Demons Blade.

Edge simply nodded and pulled out his Demons Blade.

The elder reached into his pocket and pulled out a glowing red jewel. He gripped it tightly for a moment and then motioned for Edge to hold his blade out towards him.

Is it really Edge started.

Yes, it is time the six jewels found their way back into the Demons Blade. The Elder replied. I will now give you the first jewel, the red jewel. You will feel its effects as soon as it goes into the blade. Hold steady, this will hurt you slightly.

Edge nodded as he held the blade out a bit further. As it grew close enough to the elder he ran his hand across the blade and spotted the first open slot in it. The elder than placed the red jewel into the blade and moved his hands back quickly.

Upon entering the blade the red jewel sparked sending sparks of red electricity all throughout the blade until finally it reached Edges hands and made its way through his body. Edge gripped the blade tightly and shook slightly from the pain it caused. He soon learned that it was all worth it though. As the pain subsided he could feel the incredible energy flowing through the blade as well as through his body. He felt stronger than he had ever felt before and could feel the same strength flowing through his blade. It was as if something was woken up deep inside of him.

That is all I can do for you, Edge. The Elder said. To get your next jewel you must head to the town of Margel. It is north of here, you must cross the river in order to get there. Now go child, youre journey has just begun.

Ayeaye Edge replied as he finally sheathed his sword. Thank you and farewell.

Farewell. The Elder replied as Edge walked out of the room. Let the spirits be with you child.

***

After a moment passed by the door slowly crept open. Calebs anxious look turned to one of much more excitement as he spotted the man on the other side of the door. The man stood at about six feet, he had long blue hair and was also wearing a black cloak.

Master Cyrus! Caleb shouted out in excitement. I did not know you would be the one to teach me my next spell!

It is nice to see you as well, Caleb. Master Cyrus replied. Please, come in.

Of course. Caleb said as he walked into the house and made his way into the living area.

Which spells have you mastered so far, Caleb? Master Cyrus asked.

Ive mastered Fire, Ice, Lightning and Wind. Caleb replied. I am here today to master my fifth that being Water.

Ah, water. Master Cyrus replied. Then let us begin.

Caleb released a big smile as he nodded to Master Cyrus and pulled out his Black Staff.

Kayla released another long sigh as he continued to look Joe over. Before she called him a complete idiot she remembered he was not from this time and where he had come from Gallu had yet to arrive. She took a moment before speaking in an attempt to figure out a way to tell him everything she had too.

Well? Joe asked.

No one is really sure what Gallu is. Kayla said. All we know is that he arrived on Earth in the year 2050. One month after his arrival Gallu had destroyed more than three fourths of the entire Earth. At this point in time a small group of warriors stood up to the creature but before they were able to do any major damage Gallu disappeared in a bright white flash. All records say every person who fought him that day died but saved the planet from complete destruction. A message was left though and it said he would return to the Earth in two thousand years, and thats not so far away now.

Joe looked at Kayla for a moment while continuously shaking his head. She noticed his two clenched fists on the table but continued to stare right back into his eyes. Kayla could see a look of anger and disbelief in Joes as while he continued to stare. It was unlike anything she had ever seen before but the sight of it didnt intimidate her, it simply made her look back at Joe even harder.

No! Joe shouted as he stood up and shook his head even more. NO! I dont believe you, that cant be true. It cant be true! Joe moved back a few feet knocking over the chair in the process. He then grabbed his head in pain as he looked at Kayla again and then ran for the door. Thats bullshit, I dont believe you...I wont believe you! Stay away from you, everyone just get away from me!!

Kayla released a long sigh as she watched Joe run out of the bar, Oh great, now I have to go chase after him. Im not getting paid enough to do this crap.

As Joe barged out of the bar and started to walk across the town he was steaming with anger and rage. He was in disbelief from all he had just heard, he couldnt believe it and he wouldnt dare believe it. All he wanted to do right now was lash out at the first thing that came at him.

DONT MOVE!! A robotic voice behind Joe shouted. I AMERZ-1001 AND MY MISSION IS TO KILL, KILL, KILL, KILLLLLLL!!!

Joe didnt turn around yet but he reached for his sword and pulled it out. People around the town were now screaming and scattering from the site, as the huge robot landed and shook the ground. As Joe finally turned around he locked his eyes on the massive robot and continued to glare angrily at it.

THEN KILL ME!! Joe screamed as he lunged into battle.

One thing was for certain as Joe charged at the mysterious robot, he was going to get his chance to lash out at something.
