A Pastor's Notebook...
Several years ago a wise old preacher told me to always have a sermon with me so that I would always be ready to preach. I regret to say that I didn't listen very well.
Some time ago I was on vacation. My wife, youngest son, and I were visiting the church where she grew up. We had both been members there at one time. We were married in that church. Following the morning worship service the pastor asked me if I would preach at the evening service. Though I didn't have a sermon with me, I agreed.
Fortunately God is good. I was able to remember most of a sermon that is one of my personal favorites. What I couldn't remember I was able to replace and the service went off without a problem.
I learned from that experience. What that old preacher had told me was absolutely correct. That experience was the main motivation for this web page. Should I ever be asked again to preach, if I can access the Internet I can always get to a sermon.
Though my motivation is a bit selfish, God can work through this as well. It is my prayer that those who wander through the writings contained in these pages will find a blessing.
Please understand that most of what is here is what I have written, at least in the sermons and devotions. While I don't mind people reading them, and even printing and sharing them with others, I do not want what I have written changed. I also would say up front that some of the material used in illustrations (including many of the illustrations I have used in my sermons) comes from other writers. If I have included work that an author should be given credit for, email me and I will be glad to give proper credit. If something is copyrighted and should not be on these pages it will be removed upon notification.
