The moon
The moon phases are important to learn. They tell you when it is the best time to practice the different kind of magicks. The easiest way to explain the moon phases is the new moon (No moon)Grows into a larger moon (waning)until it is full(Full moon). Then it starts to shrink (waxing)until there is no moon again. The moon is on a 28 day cycle just like the female cycle thus making the moon a female symbol the triple goddess (maiden, mother and crone).

Void of the Moon
  1. Avoid doing ANY magickal workings
  2. Explanation
    • During the time When the moon enters a new sign. There is a dead space. Neither positive magicks or Negative behave the way it should.


Lunar Eclipse
  1. 2 types of lunar eclipses:
    • Partial eclipse
    • Penumbral eclipse of the moon
  2. Explanation
    • You will need to check a planetary guide to get the dates on these. Eclipse symbolizes the perfect union of the sun and moon. Any type of magick is good for this time.


Blue Moon
  1. This moon is considered more powerful then a regular moon.
  2. Explanation
    • Any time a single month has 2 full moons present. The second moon during that month is considered the blue moon.


Black Moon
  1. Considered to be stronger then a normal new moon.
  2. Explanation
    • Any time a single month has 2 new moons present. The second moon during that month is considered the black moon.

New moons
  1. No moon is seen in the sky
  2. Explanation
    • Moon is 0-45 degrees ahead of the sun. Best time to perform new moon magick is between dawn and sunset.


Crescent Moon
  1. A sliver of the moon is seen in the sky (growing bigger)
  2. Explanation
    • The moon is 45-90 degrees ahead of the sun. The moon rises at mid-morning and sets a little after sunset.

First quarter ~ (waxing moon)
  1. The moon is growing bigger
  2. Explanation
    • Moon is 45-90 degrees ahead of the sun. The moon rises at noon and sets at midnight. Sunset is the ideal time for waxing moon magick. Dusk is great for fairy magick.

Gibbous moon magick
  1. No moon is seen in the sky
  2. Explanation
    • Moon is 135-180 degrees ahead of the sun. Often mistaken for the full moon. The moon rises at mid-afternoon and sets around 3 am. The moon is 10 1/2 to 14 days after the new moon. The magick to perform during this time making changes where they need to be, tying up loose ends, getting ready for the full moon power. Also a resting time.

Full Moon
  1. Explanation
    • Moon is 180-225 degrees ahead of the sun. The moon is opposite of the sun. The moon rises at sunset and sets at dawn. Midnight is the best time to work full moon magick. The full moon is about 14-17 1/2 days after the new moon.

Disseminating Moon
  1. The moon is beginning to get smaller
  2. Explanation
    • Moon is 225-270 degrees ahead of the sun. The moon rises at mid-evening and sets at mid-morning. A good time to take things apart. The time of souls is 3 am and that would be the mid point (best time to perform this magick). The moon is 3 1/2 to 7 days after the full moon.

Last quarter Moon ~ (waning moon)
  1. The moon is noticeably getting smaller
  2. Explanation
    • Moon is 270-315 degrees ahead of the sun. The moon rises at midnight and sets at noon. The moon is 7-10 1/2 days after the full moon.

Dark Moon
  1. A brief moment before the new moon, this moon is also invisible in the night sky.
  2. Explanation
    • Moon is 315-360 degrees ahead of the sun. It is commonly known for cursing, chaos magick, and justice. The moon rises at 3 am and sets at mid-afternoon, about 10 am is the strongest time for this magick. Moon is 10 1/2 - 14 days after the full moon. Other magick to cast during this time include: addictions, divorce/separations, enemies, protection against attackers, obstacles. The moon in her crone phase.
