Meditation Exercises
- Stillness:
- Where ever you are right now. Close your eyes for a few minutes. what can you hear? Obvious sounds are road noise, a cat scratching, dog barking, a fan going, a plane flying over head. concentrate even more. It there a clock ticking? Can you hear kids jumping robe outside? Do you hear distant voices? if so which ones to you hear? male, female, childs. Do you recognize it? Try to listen to every possible sound around you and try to analyze it. The deeper you concentrate the more you will hear.
- Fruit
- Take any fruit you have around the house. For this we will use an apple. Close your eyes and examine the apple with your fingers. Explore every curve every imperfection. Is it a hot or cold color? Is it smooth or ridged? Is it hard or soft? Make sure you take your time, you will get more of out it. Now take your apple and smell it...and I mean really smell it. Does it smell sour, or sweet ? Does the stem smell different from the base? Take your breath like you are trying to taste it. When you feel you know the smell of it pretty well. Open your eyes and look at it like its the first time you have seen an apple in your life. Study the shape of it. Are both halves the same or how are they different. Is there something special where the stem is? What shade of color is the apple? is it all red, or is there hints of green in it? By the time you are done with this exercise you should be able to put this apple in a bowl with others and choose this one. Now take a bite of it. Hold it in your mouth a moment before you chew, closing your lips. Can you taste much in this state? If so, what? Now close your nose for a brief moment. Now can you taste anything? Breath again through your nose and start to chew slowly. Can you describe it? pretend you are describing to someone who never tasted or seen an apple. As you swallow the piece of apple, really feel it slide down into your system. you might as well finish the apple. As your eating it, let your mind wander on how the apple was created. It was planted, watered, and nurtured into a tree that bared fruit. Think about the journey this apple went through to get to you. After your done with your apple open up the core and look at the seeds. If you feel the urge to plant them, then do so.
- Grounding (fast)
- Get relaxed and comfortable. Either sit or stand with your feet on the ground. Close your eyes and begin to take slow deep breaths. Visualize roots coming up from the earths core. Slowly winding up, sprouting more and more branches. Reaching up, breaking the surface of the earth. Wrapping her branches around your toes. You feel the earth's warm touch. She entwines your ankles and calves with her branches. You feel her energy, and it flows freely both ways. When you open your eyes you should feel connected with the earth and focus.
