| Katherine L. Gordon's Review of Angel Clare: In his new book, Angel Clare, Andreas Gripp proves he is a fearless poet. He tackles subjects many cannot write of, shining his unflinching light incisively into all the dark corners that humans fall into: "our understanding / quietly lost / the very moment / we think we can hear." He can write of Art Garfunkel's fall into forced mediocrity, Ted Hughes' hypocrisy, religious bias, the pitfalls of little phases of living -- from dining to loving. His language is refreshingly frank but poetically endearing. We cannot politely cover flaws and foibles, even social cruelty, but Gripp bares them all for what they are. His work is a much needed glimpse in the spotted mirror. We will blush and dust our contrived images, but deeply appreciate Andreas Gripp's unusual talent to reveal. -- Katherine L.
