| My Mom and Dad gave me a Garmin eTrex GPS for Chrismas of 2000. (OK, I asked for one.) It is the coolest toy I've gotten in a long time. There's tons of stuff you can do with a GPS. For example: Geocaching Geocaching is a new sport /hobby where you use your GPS unit to find Caches placed by other enthusiasts. These caches are filled with neat little gifts and prizes, When you take an item from a cache, you must leave different item, usually something that's uniquely you. Geocaching Links: Groundspeak Forums www.geocaching.com The Degree Confluence Project The Degree Confluence Project is kinda neat. If you look at a map, you'll see latitude and longitude lines. On a large scale map, you would probably only see the degree lines shown. For example, Calgary is located near 51 degrees North, and 114 degrees West. A group of people have set up a project to document through photographs where these lines meet. Basically, you take your GPS, go to a listed crossing, and take picture of the area, and the screen of your GPS to prove you were there. Then the pics are posted to the web. Cool. There's tons of other uses for a GPS. Hunting, Fishing, Camping, Hiking, Navigation. Hell, I even use mine as a speedometer for my POS van.
