Slater is BACK- Get it? Hour? Back? Get it?

Slater riding Cocoa BeachAlmost 10 years went by since we last seen Slater on a board. He had retired from competition all together since returning home to Laguna Beach, CA to finish school back in 1992. His first outing in a decade turned-out to be his best rip ever! Slater dazzled his faithful fans catching rides left, right and center this passed Saturday in Cocoa Beach coming-in second to Dandy Jiles- Both riders being part of the "Jon'ny J Surf squad".

"My guys kept rippin'!"

Both Slater and Jiles kept catching ride after ride even though the swell wasn't anything decent. "My guys kept rippin' for hours" yells Steven Trontin, the team's manager. This was the team's first contest this season, Trontin adds: "We all look forward to more top showings from both Slater and Dandy".

"Scoring points Surfin' the break.."

Slater scoring break pointsSlater is known for his fancy tricks but he had to rely on weak breaks to score points this weekend. He managed second place thanks to several break rides lifting him high enough to pull double rides adding much needed points to his score. "There wasn't a lot out there" ads Slater after his first set.

Hard to believe it had been 10 years since Adam last surfed! Though the waves were small and weak, he remained focussed knowing he was riding a bigger board and getting more float keeping him in the race, just not quite enough power to the waves to keep him afloat long enough to let him pull his signature tricks. Slater rode some 20+ waves kicking his Natural Art 7 footer around 3-4 foot breaks. It was sure great to see him back..

"No problemo! I'll be back! Get it? Hour back?"

Slater posing for his FansSlater plans to take-on 5-10 more rips this summer before hitting the great white north this winter and hibernating until the spring. Look for a few top finishes from this ol' pro later this season when he gets back in form. Hour back? Get it? "No problemo! I'll be back" he says following with his favorite Andrew Dice Clay classic "hour back" bit.
