Rory O'Moore Pipes & Drums is a band comprised of approximately 65 members from all walks of life and all age groups. Not all members play an instrument, as we have need for our Color Guard Team as well. We generally have about 20 pipers and 10 drummers ready to "hit the streets" for parades. Most of our jobs are located in Morris County, New Jersey and center around holidays, especially St. Patrick's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day, but we perform special events also. See the Calendar page for details.

As an organization, the band operates under the supervision of the Rory O'Moore School of Pipes and Drums, Inc., which is a not-for-profit educational and charitable organization (501(c)(3)), and is guided by an elected Executive Board, headed by the Pipe Major. The Band's instructors and mentors are Joe McGonigal, Pipe Major for the St. Columcille United Gaelic Pipe Band and Jim Stack..

Competing
We also compete in Eastern U.S. Pipe Band Association sanctioned events. Competing with other pipe bands allows each player to improve his abilities and confidence, which in turn improves the marching band's sound. Electing to compete is an option available to members.

The Grade 5 band was upgraded to Grade 4 at the close of the 2002 competition year as the result of hard work during the prior off season. As of 2009, we support two competition bands: one in Grade 4 and one in Grade 5. To view our contest results, click here.

Joining the School and Band
Student enrollment and band membership is open to any person of any age that has a sincere interest in bagpiping or drumming and Irish and Scottish music. If you are interested in learning, instructors are available and no prior experience is necessary. Practice chanters, drum pads and drum sticks are available for purchase, and advanced instruction is also available. For those under 10 years of age, we ask that the parent(s) accompany the new member to practice sessions and rehearsals.

The major items of our uniforms are paid for by the band, but members must pay for their personal items.

Our school training sessions and band practices are relaxed and held in a friendly atmosphere each Monday (school) and Tuesday (band) evening at:

The Ledgewood Baptist Church

233 Main Street

Ledgewood, New Jersey

Sessions start at 7:00 PM and last 2-3 hours. Click here for directions.

Please feel free to stop by any Monday or Tuesday night to see and hear us, and to find out if this is for you. Visitors are welcome to discuss membership or bookings with us, or to just sit back and enjoy.
