Mr. Donne, a metaphysical poet, writing both religious and secularly sensual poetry.  He is the thinking woman's poet, seducing both the heart and mind--using the sciences of the day to express love.  Not only this, his religious poetry wasn't simply mindless god-drooling doggerel--he questioned, probed, doubted.  He language is beautiful and startling, going beyond the Petrarchan clich of red and white beauty, milk and roses.  What I love most is he melting of the secular world with the religious world, or the sensual with the religious.  Eyeballs on a string?  Jesus as a pimp whoring out his wife the church?  Awesome, Mr. Donne.
