Ventura Bodyslams Public Radio

--Robert D. $utton

Jesse Ventura, newly elected governor of Minnesota, recently declared his plans to eliminate state aid for public radio and television over the next four years. Although spokesmen for public radio claim that state aid contributes only 2% of its costs and funding, Governor Venturas actions are nevertheless a victory for principles.

Public radio and television are both moral monstrosities. I can think of few things less insidious than forcing people to finance ideas they may not believe in. This is not alleviated by the claim that "all sides are represented" on public programs. The point is that individuals should not be made to finance ANY ideas if they do not want toparticularly those they disagree with. "Free speech" at the expense of property rights simply means a podium provided by slave labor. If Patrick Henry were alive today, he might have to change his famous statement to: "If THIS be liberty, give me death!"
