| My SS runs pretty well for a naturally aspirated, stock displacement LT1, but I'm feeling the need for more power!!! I'm at the point now where there are very few significant bolt-ons that I can do, and unfortunately its not just as simple as bolting on a supercharger or nitrous system to go faster. I could do it, of course, but the stock hypereutectic pistons are weak, and the way I like to beat on a car it would never hold up. I originally planned to build a Vortech supercharged, aftercooled 355, but I've since changed my mind. I'm going to build a nitrous motor. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| The new short block is going to include a Lunati 383 stroker kit, a GTP custom grind solid roller cam, and splayed 4-bolt main caps for extra strength. It will be balanced and blueprinted, and the heads will be replaced with GTP-ported AFR LT4 castings.. The compression ratio is going to be as close to 12:1 as I can get, so this thing should be a beast even off the bottle, hopefully good enough for mid 11s in the quarter. The compresions sounds high for a street motor, but the combination of aluminum heads and reverse cooling allows much more compression than could normally be run in a conventional small block. I'm looking for around 450-475 rwhp on the motor, which should be easily attainable with this combination. |

| The nitrous system I'm going with will be an NOS Sportsman Fogger, plumbed directly into the intake manifold. I considered doing a hidden system, but why? This car is no sleeper even now, and really won't be with the new motor. I plan to jet it for about 250hp, which I feel will put the car solidlly in the 10s, maybe even high 9s once traction issues are handled. Best of all, it will still be a streetable combination; it isn't going to pass GA emissions, but oh well...you can't have everything! Reliability should be better than a comparable blower motor, though, because I will be "on motor" most of the time, and there won't be the constant temptation to use the nitrous...the bottle does eventually run out, after all! |

| The new power level is going to require lots of changes to the car...for one, a roll cage is going to be a necessity. Brewer Race Cars is assisting with designing and building a 6 point bar, patterned after teh Wolfe Racecraft unit but with a few changes made. Also I'm adding a rear sway bar designed to keep the car tracking straght, without the use of airbags or other crutches. Five point harnesses, a transmission safety blanket, an upgraded fuel system (with a dedicated system for the NOS), and larger 36lb injectors will be part of the plan. The existing Random headers and dual cat y-pipe will be repalced with coated Hooker Long tubes and a custom built offroad y-pipe, or posibly true duals.. I'm going to install HAL coilovers, so I'll have plenty of adjustment, and the springs will be changed to HAl drag springs. I'll miss the handling, but Iwant this car to ET...besides, I'll be less tempted to get crazy in the curves (that would be a good thing, right, Melissa?Lol!) . I plan to have this car ready for the GAFBA fall shootout, so I've got lots of work to do between now and then. I also want to run True Street in as many GMHTP events as I can; I had planned to run a similar class in my Mustang (Fun Ford True Street) but unfortunately it was destroyed before I had the chance. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| After all this is done, the car still won't be finished...the stock brakes are barely adequate now. There are many choices available for brake upgrades for F-bodies, but my choice is going to be Baer. They have race-proven systems available for just about any budget, but I plan to stay with a PBR-type caliper (stock on the rear). Larger front rotors, PBR calipers, Performance Friction pads, and of course the optional zinc-washed, crossdrilled and slotted rotors are a necessity! It will look as good as it stops! Its almost a shame to have to cover them up with wheels! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Think I'll stop after these mods? I DOUBT IT!!! To be continued.... |
