WILLIAM
Why did you do it, Belle?

BELLE
It was the next best thing to killing you.  Thats why, Bill.

WILLIAM
I see.

BELLE
No, you dont!  Why do I still hurt?  Im supposed to feel better now.  I have a whole burden liftedIts not fair and youll never understand!

WILLIAM
I just wish I couldve helped. I might never understand, but maybeI dont know.

BELLE
Are you still angry?

WILLIAM
A little.

WILLIAM
Maybe.  Or maybe I could have been there with you for the decision you did make.  Maybe I wouldve supported that, too.

WILLIAM

BELLE

WILLIAM

BELLE
Why dont you just go back to your girlfriend and leave me alone?  It shouldnt be too hard.  Youve done it before.

WILLIAM
(Getting ready to go)
Honestly, Belle, I am sorry.  If you ever need

(She turns away.  He gives up and starts to exit.)

BELLE
William?
(He stops)
Would you have married me?

WILLIAM
(There is a pause, but he doesnt need to think about it.)
No.

BELLE
Yeah?
(Not looking at him)
I wouldve married you.

WILLIAM
Yeah?

BELLE
Yeah.  I wouldve hated it. I mean youre so needy and pessimistic andandshort
