Joel and his cousin Jeff Shurtliff have been buds ever since they met each other. Now that they live within fifteen minutes of each other, they are seldom seen without the other beside them.
Joel has a passion for skateboarding, but mostly loves to longboard. He is also a big dirtbike fan. And when not doing one of those things, he is usually on his go-ped, except in the winter, when he and Jeff are off snowboarding.
Joel is currently running a window-washing business to earn money for his future activities. He has just purchased a new snowboard and bindings, and is now working to fix up his go-ped.
Joel's specialties in movies are humorous movies. Just about every film shot with Joel has been filmed at either Jeff's house or their grandpa's house in Provo. Although he and Jake are both bigshots in the JJ Corporation business, they have only been in one film together, which was the movie trailer for the book "Prey" by Michael Crichton, which was shot at the most famous JJC spot, Jeff and Jake's grandparent's house.
