This is Giles (The casts calls him by his last name, don't know why) and he is also one of the oldest supporting actor in Buffy The Vampire Slayer. At first he posed as a High School Librarian, and later on became Buffy's watcher. As times goes on, Giles became more than a watcher, he also became a father figure to the group.
Things kind of got complicated and Buffy quit the 'watcher society', I forgot what it's called, and Giles went along with it. He didn't exactly quit but he did kinda transition into more of a friend than a watcher. And now Giles is helping Buffy find out who she is and where she came from.
Giles also opened a Magic Shop, and this is where the 'Scooby Gang' meet up, a rendezvous, I guess you would call it.
