General Meeting/High School MUN Task Delegation

 

October 16, 2003

3:15 PM to 5:00 PM

 

3:26 PM:            Jason introduced the agenda

-       went over the presentation which will be every meeting by volunteers

 

3:27 PM:            Ornela presented Nigeria as the first presentation

-       give examples of problems in the country

-       problems such as poverty, HIV/Aids

 

3:30 PM:            Aferdita: presented Niger

-       Problem being illiteracy among other things

 

3:32 PM:            Brian spoke about Pakistan

-       Introduced www.pak.org

 

3:34 PM:            Jason spoke about Syria

-gave overview of what Syria is doing as far as current world events.

 

3:36 PM:            Volunteers were chosen to speak at the next meeting

-       Vincenzo Sainato volunteered to speak on the Security Council

-       Rosa G will speak about ECOSOC

-       Ibrica will speak on the ICJ

-       Ms N. Peters will speak Secretariat

-       Ms Mukta Chand will speak on General assembly

 

3:40 PM:            Jason discussed old business

-       November 8th we will find out what country we get

 

3:45 PM:          UNA-USA: the representative of this organization spoke about it.

-       Elanor Roosevelt is consider the mother of this organization.

-       Their motto is to help young people to recognize the importance of the United Nations.

-       Made it clear to everyone that the United Nations plans to get education throughout the world

-       One goal of the UN is to use the UNA-USA to introduce the concept of a Global class room.

-       So far the organization has signed up 100 high school onto their programs.

-       This organization is very good for John Jays recruitment work because this group allows student to network with colleges that are involved in the NMUN

-       One of their main goals is to increase NYC public school participation in this program.

 

3:50 PM:            Malisa – coordinator for UNA-USA spoke about having

-       the conference in the Jacob Javitz center where at least 85 students from all over our nation come together to be delegates in this event and to represent countries of the UN.

-       This event takes place May 21-22nd most students are from the NYC area public school.

-       She also spoke about adopt-a-minefield

-       Night of 1,000 dinners

-       She also told members how to get their former high school involved in the event if they aren’t already in it.

 

4:00 PM:          Jason ended the meeting by announcing another meeting for the next week on wed
