We chose this company due to one of our members being one of the many individuals employed by citigroup. This granted us an insiders view of the company and what makes it the banking power house that it is today. Keep in mind that this will be a general overview and I will not be getting into minuet details. MIS Theory Citigroup was created in 1998 when Citicorp and Travelers Insurance merged into one giant company made up of Citicorps multinational banks and Travelers Insurances many diverse companies including brokerage firms and insurance companies, as well as many others. At the time due to the Glass-Steagall Act, this merger was illegal, but fortunately by 1999 thanks to the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act the companies were able to finalize their merger as citigroup legally. This merger was to create a form of Customer Relations Management (CRM) as a one-stop shop for those looking for banking and insurance solutions. This was to create a sort of umbrella through out all of their companies to cover all of their customers needs. This gave them a very good leg up against their competition. Findings After all of my research I realized that citigroups past before the merger as well as after the merger was not always a good one. There are long lists of scandals reaching back to the 1800s all the way to a recent one which led to the link between Enron and citigroup. In fact, citigroup has been linked too many corporate scandals by lending these companies money in order to cover up financial loses. Citigroup even went through a few management strategies through out its existence. They ended up creating a multi-CEO platform which was thought to be unmanageable by the press and the critics and even dubbed "The Noah's ark school of management." Of coarse this style of management did not last long and became a part of citigroups many failed ventures in their history. Conclusion It is known that citigroup is one of the largest and most powerful Banking and Insurace companies in the world. What you might have learned a bit about here is how they got to be who they are today and a few people involved in citigroups continuing success.
