Title: Family, Friends and Lovers Author: Anne Rating: PG Disclaimer: I don't own any of the characters you've recognised! They belong to BH and Southern Star etc Summary: Well, I am a Jack/Jo person so there you go. WARNING: This story has a 3/5 rate for sappiness! Jo frowned as she heard the rattle downstairs. Her cop instinct kicking in, she opened her door and went downstairs. 'Freeze!' she cried as she rounded the door into the bar. 'Jesus!' Jack cried, falling over. 'Jo!' Jo smiled apologetically and helped him up. 'Sorry.' Jack smiled back. 'No problem. What are you doing up anyway?' Jo sat down beside him. 'Couldn't sleep. Things on my mind.' 'Such as?' Jo raised an eyebrow at him. 'Sorry,' Jack replied, reaching for a beer. He dropped some money in the till. 'Want one?' 'Is this legal?' Jo asked, doubtfully. Jack shrugged. 'Don't feel like being legal at the moment.' Jo smiled as she accepted a beer. 'What's on your mind Stretch?' Jack took a drink. 'All I've ever wanted out of life is a wife and kids. A house with a horse and a dog. Never got there though. All my girlfriends were wrong.' Jo sighed. 'Me too. A husband that is though. And boyfriends.' That made them both laugh. Jack smiled at her. 'You really are something, you know that?' 'Excuse me?' Jo asked. 'Well, you burst into town with a physco boyfriend, you managed to win over PJ in CI and you have a knack for making people smile.' 'Well thankyou. I think,' Jo replied, narrowing her eyes. They sat in silence for a couple of minutes and both sipped at their beers. Jack looked at Jo and she looked back as he lent over and kissed her softly on the lips. 'I liked that,' Jo said softly. 'Me too,' Jack replied, and they kissed again, except this time it was deeper and longer. That night was spent discovering their love for each other in Jack's room. 'You know,' Jo said, as she snuggled closer, 'we probably broke some law.' Jack smiled and kissed her. 'I don't care.' Jo smiled back. 'Me either.' 'Jack!' came Chris' cry at the door. They looked at each other in alarm. 'Stay here,' Jack whispered to her. He threw some pants and a shirt on and answered the door. 'Jack, I went to wake Jo up and she's not there. Do you know where she might be?" 'Um,' Jack said uncomfortably. 'Maybe she went into work early.' 'What's going on Jack?' Jack sighed. 'Ok. But you can't tell anyone. Not Tom, or anybody.' 'Okay,' Chris replied, looking worried. 'Right. Jo and I are...' 'You are?' Jack nodded. 'That's wonderful! But you're fine. I won't tell a soul.' Jack returned back to his room after Chris left. 'Well?' Jo asked. 'She knows. But we're fine.' 'Which shift are you on?' Jo asked, as he got back in bed. 'Afternoon. You?' Jo smiled. 'Same.' 'Why am I missing two coppers!?' Tom cried, as he surveyed his office. PJ was in his office and Ben was filling out reports. Jo burst in. 'Where have you been?' Tom asked. 'Sorry boss. Just took a little longer to get out of bed than usual.' Jack, who had also just arrived, grinned. 'What is that smirk for Lawson? Oh never mind. Get to work.' 'Jo,' PJ said, coming up behind her. 'What? Oh. PJ.' 'I've been talking to you for five minutes. Where've you been?' 'Um, nowhere really.' PJ watched her eyes travelling and when he saw where to, he smiled. 'Come into my office for a moment.' Jo followed him in. PJ smiled as he shut the door. 'You and Jack are together aren't you?' 'Where'd you get that idea from?' 'By the way you were looking at him. It was the same way I used to look at Maggie.' Jo squirmed. PJ grinned. 'Never mind. Your secret's safe with me.' Jo smiled thankfully and went into the locker room. There, she was met by a pair of lips that claimed her mouth. 'Jack!' she smiled. 'We're going to get into trouble.' Jack smiled as he kissed her again. 'I know. I'm sorry.' 'Hey, I got no problem with you kissing me Stretch. In fact I rather like it,' Jo replied, hugging him. 'But not at work right?' Jo nodded. 'Exactly. Purely professional.' Jack grinned and kissed her again. 'Wonder how long this idea will last?' Jo swatted him and left. Jo sat on a rock, watching the valley below. She'd never felt this wonderful and complete before. She had finally found what she wanted in life. 'Flower for the lady?' She turned around and smiled at Jack standing there, holding a rose. She saw Matilda tied up around the way a bit. 'How did you know to find me here?' Jack smiled and sat down next to her. 'Didn't. I knew you weren't working and you weren't at the Imperial, so Matilda and I decided we'd come look for you. That's why the rose is wilting.' Jo laughed and leaned into his embrace. 'I've never felt this good before.' 'Me neither,' Jack replied, kissing her softly. 'Do you remember when we were out on that night and we both wanted to sleep under the stars?' Jo asked. 'Yeah,' Jack replied, pulling her a little closer. 'Want to?' 'Sounds like a plan.' Chris smirked as Jack and Jo left the Imperial. He had bought a bottle of wine and she'd come down with a couple of rucksacks. 'What are they up to?' Tom asked, coming to the bar. 'What? Oh, them. Nothing. Nothing at all,' Chris said in a fluster. 'You know something.' 'No I don't.' 'Come on Chris. You can tell me.' 'If I told you, you couldn't tell them or anyone else what you knew.' 'They've gone up to that Leap to the flat area near it. I think they're going to camp there.' 'Really,' Tom smiled. 'Thanks Chris.' He walked back over to where PJ and Ben were sitting. 'I know that you knew,' Tom said, pointing to PJ. 'But I don't mind. Let's go see what our lovebirds are up to.' 'That was really good Jack,' Jo smiled, putting the plate back on the ground. 'Glad you liked it,' he replied. 'My Great Grandpa told me how to cook sausages like that.' 'Well, I'll have to thank him next time we see him.' 'Did you mean that?' Jack asked, looking at her intently. 'Mean what?' 'That "we" part.' 'Well, we are, a couple aren't we?' Jack smiled. 'Definetly.' Jo moved around the fire and Jack held her, as they watched the flames die down. Jack kissed her forehead. 'I love you.' Jo turned around and looked at him. 'You what?' Jack blushed. 'I love you.' Jo smiled and kissed him. 'I love you too.' Jack breathed a sigh of relief and kissed her back soundly. Tom, Ben and PJ had witnessed this little exchange and Tom was smiling ever so slightly. 'Come on,' he said. 'Let's leave these two in peace.' 'Good morning,' Jo smiled, entering the station, Jack behind her. Tom came out, smiling ever so slightly. 'Next time you two are out camping, try and get here on time okay?' Jo and Jack looked at each other in horror. 'Congratulations,' Tom smiled, going back into his room. Please send feedback!
