Mmmm. . .Beaujolais Nouveau. Every November there is a nationwide festival in France when they release the first bottles of Beaujolais. All the cafes offer a different bottle to try and we made it our mission to try as many as possible. We stopped counting at three. (Liz, Jeremy, Colette and Jess from left to right).

Thanksgiving in Marseille! Turkeys are not easily found in Marseille, not even by desperate and determined Americans. So we compromised and decided to buy three chickens instead (since dubbed our churkeys). Jeremy was in charge of most of the cooking and successfully cooked a feast for ten people from a stove the size of an easy-bake oven. Above left you see him proudly carving one of our victims and on the right you see a couple churkeys catching some rays.

Believe it or not, they put in an ice skating rink right by our apartment. Ice skating in Marseille---unbelievable. You can read all about it in Jess' journal:

Mmm. . .life in Marseille sure is yummy. There is a fish market on the port every morning and it is so much fun to go see. They have the biggest lobsters I have ever seen and all sorts of crazy sea creatures. On Valentine's Day we decided to get up early and go buy a bunch of mussels and shrimp to cook ourselves a fancy meal. We had so much fun and it sure was good! If you're really nice we might even share the secret recipe. . .
More fancy cooking. . .when my mom (Annick) came to visit we took the opportunity to have a dinner party at our place. It was so much fun!
THE MENU: Pistachios and aperitifs Green salad with blue cheese and homemade vinagrette White wine chicken with mushroom, roasted red pepper and shallot sauce Jeremy's special mushroom stew Cheese platter Various Meditteranean sweets Served with white and red wine Dessert with champagne
Good times at O'Malley's
O'Malley's is what you would call our "Ole Faithful". It is a local Irish pub that is located on the port and near our apartment and although we venture out to other bars as well, O'Malley's is often where you will find us. It is a really popular hang-out here and when we spent St. Patrick's Day there we even saw the cast of River Dance! Pretty cool! The pictures above are of Liz and I (on the left) and Colette, Mike and Liz (on the right).
Speaking of ole faithfuls, Desperados is a beer that we have only ever seen in France which is funny since it is a combo of beer and tequila. It is everywhere and Liz's favorite. Here we are celebrating our love of Desperados two nights before Liz's return home.
Liz's Last Night in Marseille
Although we were all sad to know that Liz was leaving, we decided to end our adventures together here in Marseille on a high note and so Jeremy and I put together another dinner party where we could all laugh about our time together and have a fun last night. We were all pretty giddy by the end of the night (hence the funny pictures) and it was the perfect way to send Liz off and celebrate the past six months.
THE MENU: Munchies and aperitifs Green salad with blue cheese and homemadevinagrette Chicken with white wine and mushroom sauce Grilled eggplant and roasted red pepper in olive oil Lemon poppyseed cake Strawberries and champagne Served with red and white wine
Hehe. . .this picture cracks me up. Liz has the perfect pirate goatee!
