The view down the valley from the Kanderfirn at 2,500 metres is spectacular. Balmhorn is the prominent peak ahead. |
A last chance to rest before the long climb up to the glacier... |

The final stages of the climb are steep and torturous. As you scramble over the lateral moraine the temperature plummets and the huge hulk of the Kanderfirn suddenly appears. You can explore the ice tunnels where streams burrow into the glacier's heart. |

Just above Kandersteg, if you are not feeling quite so adventurous, you can walk up to the Kanderfalle and relax in the meadows above. There is a friendly restaurant called Waldhuis. Further up the valley is the delightful village of Selden. By now there is a distinct feeling of being cut off from the rest of the world. |

Helleboden is a dairy farm perched on an attractive terrace above the village of Krattigen on Thunersee. If you fancy watching the sunset over the lake you can take some food up to the Bar-B-Q area just past the farm. |
Hidden away in Suldtal, the valley that leads away behind Aeschi you find Pochtefalle. There is a busy Restaurant here but you may be disturbed by nearby shooting. |
