This page is always a work in progress. Thank you to those that have emailed --
and there have been many -- sharing thoughts and memories about Badger
Bob. It's kind of amazing to think, as I research this page and receive
emails, how many lives Bob Johnson touched. Whether you are from Calgary,
Pittsburgh, Wisconsin, Colorado, Minnesota or anywhere else, everyone has
nothing but kind words to say. People who didn't even know the man cite
him for getting them interested in coaching. Players that never played for
him cite him as an influence in their careers.
I was at the 1998 Final Four in Boston with a friend, and we were riding
the T to Fenway. She pointed at the wall next to me, and right next to my
head was a sticker that said "Providence College Hockey. It's a great Day
for Hockey - Badger Bob Johnson." In Providence at the Final Four in 2000,
we were at a bar and one of the waitresses had a big red and white sticker
that said "It's a great day for hockey." Both were somewhat surreal
reminders of the Badger's influence and reach.
